Skoda Octavia sedan cruise control no longer works

Hi guys, I need some advice. My 2017 petrol Skoda Octavia is having problems with the cruise control, which doesn't seem to be working, and I also have error messages in the display. Have any of you ever had this? How did your garage fix it and what was your experience? Any tips would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Skoda Octavia sedan is experiencing issues with its cruise control, accompanied by error messages on the display. A similar problem in another Skoda model was caused by a defective control unit, which was costly to fix. However, it is advised to first conduct a precise diagnosis by reading the fault memory, as the issue could be due to simpler causes like a loose contact or faulty wiring. This approach could prevent unnecessary expenses if the problem is not with the control unit.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I can understand your pain. I had a similar case with my 2015 Skoda Superb, also a petrol engine. I'm not a car mechanic, but I've had quite a bit of experience over the years. Had exactly the same problem and it turned out to be a defective control unit. Unfortunately it was really expensive, cost me 1000 euros. I had it fixed at my regular garage, where they did a good job. To help you better, I would need more information about your vehicle. Have you ever read the fault memory or anything like that? If not, I can do some research and see if I can find something similar.

Thank you for your quick reply. My Octavia has covered 97654km so far without any major problems. The ECU is of course not good news, but I will have it checked at the next service and hope that it won't be that expensive. I haven't read the fault memory yet, but there are several error messages, mainly because of the cruise control. So, if you have any information, please let me know. Thanks again!

No problem, I'm happy to help! Don't forget to carry out a precise diagnosis of your vehicle. The error messages in the error memory can indicate the cause of the problem. A wide variety of faults could be caused by a loose contact or a fault in the wiring. It would be annoying if you replaced the control unit now and it ended up being just a broken cable or something. In my case, it really was the control unit, but as I said, every situation is different. Next time you're at the garage, ask if they can read out the fault memory. You can often draw a lot of conclusions from this. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing major and that the repair costs stay within reasonable limits. Keep us posted on what you find out. Good luck!

Many thanks for the good advice and for keeping your fingers crossed! You're absolutely right, before I spend a lot of money, I should first have the fault memory read out and find out the exact problem. I'll tackle this at my next workshop appointment and let you know what I find out. Hopefully it's just a loose connection or something similar. Thanks again, and have a nice day!
