Skoda Praktik Diesel Stalling at Idle

I'm having trouble with my 2010 Skoda Praktik, diesel engine. The check engine light is on, and it keeps stalling at idle. I'm suspecting the tank ventilation valve. I've done some digging, and it seems like a common issue, perhaps the hoses are clogged? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Sounds like an EVAP system issue. I had similar problems with my old Opel Corsa. The check engine light kept popping on, and it would occasionally stall. First thing to check is the gas cap; make sure it's sealing properly. Then, inspect all the hoses connected to the fuel tank and the EVAP system itself for any cracks or disconnections. A leak in the system can cause all sorts of weirdness. Has the gas cap been recently changed?

Interesting, thanks for the advice! You mentioned hoses and the gas cap. Were your symptoms identical? And what exactly did you have to replace on your Corsa?

Yeah, the stalling at idle and the check engine light were the key indicators. In my case, the problem stemmed from cracked hoses connected to the fuel tank. I initially tried to patch them up, but it didn't last. Eventually, I replaced all the hoses and the valve itself. Given your symptoms and the mileage, I'd recommend taking it to a proper workshop. They'll have the tools to diagnose the EVAP system properly.

It was the tank ventilation valve. The hoses were completely clogged. I replaced the valve and cleaned everything. Cost 175€, but the check engine light is gone, and it idles smoothly now. Thanks for the heads up!
