Skoda Praktik Diesel Transmission Problem

Good day, experienced car owners. I'm at my wit's end with my Skoda Praktik diesel. It has a mere 47219 km on the clock, yet I'm experiencing perplexing transmission issues. The engine warning light keeps illuminating, and there's an error stored, possibly linked to the transmission oil pressure sensor. The gearbox feels like it's in emergency mode. Gear shifts are unclean, almost slipping and occasionally producing grinding noises. Could this be related to a faulty oil sensor or a failing pressure gauge? I suspect that perhaps the oil level is too low, but I wanted to get a second opinion before proceeding. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Summary of the thread

The Skoda Praktik diesel is experiencing transmission issues, with symptoms including an engine warning light, unclean gear shifts, and grinding noises. These problems are suspected to be linked to a faulty transmission oil pressure sensor or low oil levels. Initial advice suggests checking and topping off the transmission oil, but ultimately, replacing the faulty sensor is recommended to resolve the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Greetings. I faced a similar problem with my Peugeot 308, albeit a different brand. The symptoms you describe, particularly the gearbox issues coupled with the engine warning light, strongly suggest a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. I would recommend checking the transmission oil level as a first step. Low oil level can trigger the sensor and cause the gearbox to enter emergency mode.

Thank you for your quick response. I appreciate your suggestion. When you experienced this issue with your Peugeot, did the error memory also indicate a pressure sensor fault? And did simply topping off the oil resolve the problem for you, or was sensor replacement necessary?

Indeed, the error memory on my Peugeot also pointed towards the oil pressure sensor. Topping off the oil provided temporary relief, but the issue recurred shortly after. Ultimately, the sensor required replacement to permanently resolve the problem. Given the symptoms and the error code, I highly recommend visiting a qualified workshop for a proper diagnosis and sensor replacement.

I'm incredibly grateful for your assistance. Following your advice, I inspected the oil level and found it to be critically low; seemingly the oil sensor was faulty. I topped it off, but unfortunately, the transmission was still acting up. I ended up taking my Skoda Praktik to the workshop today. As suspected, the oil sensor requires replacement. The estimated repair cost is 365€. Hopefully, this will resolve the issue entirely.
