Skoda Praktik Fog Sensor Issue

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2007 Skoda Praktik, gasoline engine, with some kilometers on the clock. The error memory stores a fog sensor error, and the air conditioning system refuses to switch on. Furthermore, the spray nozzles seem to be frozen even in relatively mild cold temperatures, and the mirror heating is non-functional. The likely cause, according to some research, points to a defective cable or plug connection on the sensor. The potential repair cost is estimated at 95€. Any insights before I proceed?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Skoda Praktik was experiencing issues with the air conditioning, spray nozzles, and mirror heating, linked to a fog sensor error. The likely cause was identified as a defective cable or plug connection on the sensor. It was suggested to inspect the fog sensor connector and wiring harness, and use a multimeter for continuity checks. Ultimately, the vehicle was taken to a workshop where the cable issue was confirmed and resolved, restoring functionality to the affected systems at an estimated cost of 95€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Regarding your Skoda Praktik, several systems are indeed connected to the fog sensor. The windshield fogging issue disrupting climate control, mirror heating, and even potentially affecting the spray nozzles is indicative of a larger problem. I recommend you inspect the fog sensor connector and wiring harness. A multimeter can be used to check for continuity. Do you have access to a wiring diagram for your vehicle?

Thanks for the detailed response. I've visually inspected the connector and wiring near the sensor, and nothing appears obviously damaged. However, I do not have a wiring diagram nor a multimeter. Where exactly should I be probing with the multimeter, assuming I acquire one?

Given that you lack the wiring diagram and multimeter, and the symptoms are impacting multiple vehicle systems, the most prudent course of action would be to consult a qualified workshop. The 95€ estimate seems reasonable for diagnosing and rectifying a simple cable or connector issue. Attempting repairs without the proper tools and documentation could exacerbate the problem.

As suggested, I took the Skoda Praktik to a workshop. They confirmed the fog sensor cable issue. The defective cable was replaced, and the error memory was cleared. The air conditioning and mirror heating are now functioning correctly. The total cost was indeed 95€. Thank you for the diagnostic advice.
