Skoda Praktik Gearbox Slipping

I've got a 2008 Skoda Praktik with a gasoline engine, mileage is 178453 km. The gearbox seems to be slipping sometimes, and the shifts aren't smooth. Thinking it might be a transfer case problem, maybe mechanical wear? Anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Skoda Praktik is experiencing gearbox slipping and unsmooth shifts, suspected to be a transfer case issue possibly due to mechanical wear. The problem might involve worn gears or insufficient transfer case oil. It is suggested to have a workshop inspect the transfer case, as a simple oil change may not resolve the issue if there is gear damage.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like a transfer case issue. When was the last transfer case oil change? Could be worn gears. Is the gear grinding noise constant, or only when shifting?

I'm not sure about the oil change history. I bought the car used. How would I check the transfer case oil? Is it like checking the engine oil?

Checking transfer case oil is similar to engine oil, but often requires a specific wrench. Gear grinding confirms mechanical wear. Slipping is like a worn clutch. Probably best to have a workshop inspect the transfer case. A simple oil change may not fix it if the gears are damaged.

Okay, thanks for the help. Had it checked and it was indeed the transfer case. Quoted 330€ for the repair. Guess it's like a leaky faucet, gotta fix it.
