Skoda Praktik headlight cleaning malfunction

I'm experiencing a malfunction with the headlight cleaning system on my 2010 Skoda Praktik, diesel engine, with 198527 km on the clock. Neither the headlight cleaning system nor the windshield washer system are functioning. I suspect a defective cable connection to the pump or a faulty relay. Any advice on troubleshooting?

Summary of the thread

The headlight cleaning system on a 2010 Skoda Praktik was malfunctioning, along with the windshield washer system. The suspected causes included a defective cable connection to the pump or a faulty relay. After checking the fuse and confirming the pump was not audible, it was suggested to inspect for clogs in the hose and consider the pump itself as the issue. Ultimately, a workshop diagnosed and repaired a defective cable connection to the pump, resolving the problem.

Interesting I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, though it wasn't the headlight cleaning system specifically, but the windshield washer jets. The pump gave up completely. Have you checked the fuse? Also, see if you can hear the pump working when you activate the system. Could also be a clog in the hose, especially if you're using cheap washer fluid. Sometimes that stuff gunks up the whole system. Do you have LED headlights installed?

Thanks for the quick response. I did check the fuse, it's fine. I can't hear the pump at all when I try to use the windshield washer, or the headlight cleaning system for that matter – which makes sense since they're both not working. I'll check for clogs in the hose, but where exactly should I be looking? And regarding your question, yes, the headlights are LED.

Sounds like the pump then, especially if you can't hear it at all. As for the hose, start at the reservoir and follow it to the pump, then from the pump to the jets. Any kinks or obvious blockages? Since it affects both systems, it's likely something before the split. Given you've checked the fuse and can't hear the pump, I'd say your initial suspicion about the cable connection or pump itself is probably right. Honestly, at this point, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop unless you're comfortable digging deeper. They can properly diagnose and replace the faulty component.

I took it to a local workshop as you suggested. Turns out the cable connection to the pump was indeed defective, as suspected. Repair cost me 165€. Appreciate the insight!
