Skoda Praktik turn signal woes

My Skoda Praktik is having turn signal issues. The speedometer is flashing a warning, and the error memory is full of turn signal lamp errors. The lights sometimes work, sometimes don't. I'm thinking it is the signal lamp itself. I read somewhere it is likely a cable or plug connection that's gone bad. Any ideas before I start ripping the car apart? I am a novice when it comes to electrics, but I did check the broken lens.

Summary of the thread

The Skoda Praktik is experiencing turn signal issues, with the speedometer flashing a warning and the error memory filled with turn signal lamp errors. The problem is suspected to be either the signal lamp itself or a faulty cable or plug connection. Suggestions include checking the bulb holder for corrosion and wiggling the wires near the lamp to identify any loose or broken connections. Ultimately, a defective plug connection was confirmed and replaced by a shop, resolving the issue.

Sounds like a dodgy connection. I had a similar thing happen with my old Renault Megane, although it was the brake light. Error message on the dash, the whole shebang. Have you checked the bulb holder itself? Sometimes they corrode, causing intermittent faults. Also, give the wiring a good wiggle near the lamp. It could be a broken wire inside the insulation that's only making contact sometimes.

Interesting, I'll check the bulb holder for corrosion. Where exactly did you wiggle the wires on your Megane? Was it right at the back of the lamp, or further up the line?

I wiggled them right at the back of the lamp cluster where the connector plugs in. Think of it like a loose wire on a lamp at home – sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If wiggling doesn't do anything, and the bulb holder looks okay, I'd take it to a shop. Electrical faults can be a real pain to trace, and you don't want to accidentally fry something.

Thanks for your help. The shop confirmed a defective plug connection to the turn signal lamp. They replaced the connector and cleared the error. It cost 95€, but at least it's fixed.
