Skoda Rapid ABS issue

Alright, so I've got a bit of a head scratcher with my 2006 Skoda Rapid with a gasoline engine. Mileage is sitting at 229531 km. The ABS lamp keeps lighting up on the dashboard, traction is all over the place, and the ABS system seems completely dead. Could this be related to the transmission input speed sensor? A friend mentioned it might be the ABS control unit itself, which is apparently a pricey fix around 1000€. Anyone else had this?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Rapid, although I can't remember the year. The ABS light was on, and the traction control was going nuts. Have you checked the ABS sensors on each wheel? Sometimes a faulty sensor can mess with the speed signal. It might be a cheaper fix than you think.

Cheers for the reply! How would I check the ABS sensors? Is that something I can do myself, or am I better off taking it to a garage?

Yeah, checking the sensors yourself can be a bit tricky without the right tools. You'd need a multimeter at least. Honestly, given the symptoms and the potential cost, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. Sounds like the control unit issue I had. Saved myself a lot of hassle just letting them diagnose it properly. Could save you some money in the long run, too. They can properly read the ABS sensor data.

Thanks a million for the heads up! Took it to a workshop, and you were spot on – ABS control unit was toast. Cost me 1000€ to get it sorted, but at least the dashboard isn't lit up like a Christmas tree anymore!
