Skoda Rapid Air Conditioning Problems
Summary of the thread
The air conditioning in a 2009 Skoda Rapid was not engaging, with a diagnostic scan revealing an error code related to the heat exchanger temperature sensor. This sensor is crucial for preventing the evaporator from freezing. A faulty sensor or air conditioning control unit was suspected, with repair costs estimated at 980€. After taking the car to a workshop, both the defective sensor and control unit were confirmed and repaired, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the response. What do you mean by 'heat exchanger temperature sensor'? Is that the same as the coolant temperature sensor that regulates engine cooling, or is it a separate sensor for the HVAC system? Also, regarding the wiring, are there specific areas I should check for damage or corrosion?

The heat exchanger temperature sensor is separate from the engine coolant temperature sensor; it monitors the temperature of the evaporator core in your HVAC system. For the wiring, check the connector at the sensor for corrosion and make sure the wires aren't broken or frayed. If you're not comfortable with that, take it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and calibrate the sensor if needed.

I wanted to share that I took my Skoda Rapid to a trusted workshop. They confirmed the heat exchanger temperature sensor was defective and also found a fault with the air conditioning control unit, as suspected. The repair cost was 980€. The air conditioning is now working, and the error message is gone. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a faulty heat exchanger temperature sensor. The air conditioning system uses that sensor to stop the evaporator from freezing. I had a similar problem with my Rapid. Check the sensor and the wiring to it. Sometimes it's just a bad connection.
