Skoda Rapid Automatic Transmission Problems

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2020 Skoda Rapid with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. Mileage is around 179841 km. The problem? The automatic transmission seems to think it's not in 'Park,' even when it is. The engine won't start, the check engine light is on, and the gearbox shifts uncleanly. The error memory has a stored error pointing towards the control unit being defective. Could a faulty control unit really cause all this? Transmission issues are never fun, are they?

Transmission issues can be a nightmare. Does the engine crank at all, or is it completely dead when in park? I had similar transmission failure symptoms with my old Opel, though it wasn't exactly the same. Error codes can point you in the right direction, but they're not always definitive. Is the gear shifter moving freely, or does it feel stuck?

Interesting about your Opel! Did you also have the 'check engine' light on, and gear slipping too? Was it also an automatic? And how did you eventually diagnose the issue with your car?

Yes, I experienced similar symptoms, including the check engine light and rough shifting. The diagnosis was tricky, involving checking the gear linkage and finally pinpointing a sensor within the transmission. Given your error codes and symptoms, it does sound like that control unit could be the culprit. My advice? Seek a professional opinion at a trusted workshop. They'll have the proper tools to diagnose it accurately.

Huge thanks for sharing your experience! It's reassuring to know I'm not alone in this. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it's a faulty control unit in the transmission. Looks like a 1000€ repair. Ouch! But at least I know what's up.
