Skoda Rapid Diesel Gearbox Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Skoda Rapid diesel is experiencing gearbox issues characterized by unclean shifts and slipping. Diagnostics indicate a transfer case oil wear fault, possibly due to defective gears within the transfer case. The wear debris may be contaminating the oil, affecting its properties. A mechanic confirmed significant mechanical wear in the transfer case, leading to necessary repairs.

I got the 'transfer case oil wear fault' from the diagnostic tool. I haven't personally checked the gear oil, but is it possible for defective gears inside the transfer case to cause that kind of fault reading? Like, could the wear debris be affecting the oil's properties?

Okay, if the diagnostic is pointing to oil wear, and you're experiencing slipping, then yes, internal gear wear is a very plausible culprit. The wear debris will contaminate the transfer case oil, reducing its lubricating properties and triggering the fault code. It's time for a workshop visit; they can properly assess the damage.

Slipping and unclean shifts sound worrying. When you say 'transfer case oil wear fault,' what exactly are you basing that on? Have you checked the gear oil level and condition? Low or contaminated gear oil can definitely cause those symptoms. A transfer case, for those less familiar, is what transfers power from the transmission to the axles.
