Skoda Rapid Diesel Low Oil Pressure
Summary of the thread
The 2007 Skoda Rapid diesel is experiencing low oil pressure, indicated by a warning lamp and loud mechanical noises. The suspected cause is oil pump failure. Possible causes include old oil losing viscosity, oil leakage, a clogged oil filter, or worn engine bearings. Solutions suggested include checking oil viscosity, inspecting for leaks, and consulting a workshop, which confirmed the oil pump failure.

You mentioned oil viscosity. What kind of oil should I be using? And what should I look for regarding oil leakage?

Regarding oil viscosity, check your owner's manual for the recommended grade. Using the wrong oil can definitely cause problems. As for oil leakage, look for wet spots or drips under the car after it's been parked for a while. Check around the oil filter, oil pan, and the front of the engine. Given the symptoms and the potential for oil pump failure, it might be best to get it checked by a workshop sooner rather than later to avoid further damage to the engine.

The workshop confirmed oil pump failure. Total cost is 755€. Not great, but at least it's sorted.

Low oil pressure on a diesel Skoda Rapid could be a few things. I had a similar problem with my Skoda Octavia. First, when was the last oil change? Old oil can lose viscosity. Also, check for oil leakage around the engine. Could be a sign of a bigger issue. Has the oil filter been changed recently, a clogged oil filter can cause this issue? It might be engine bearings are worn, but this would be unusual with your mileage, but not impossible. It's hard to say for sure without looking at it.
