Skoda Rapid electronic parking brake problem

I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2011 Skoda Rapid with a diesel engine has developed an infuriating problem with the electronic parking brake. It's completely dead – won't engage or disengage. The error memory has a fault stored, and the warning light is glaring at me from the speedometer. From what I've read, it's likely the electric motor in the brake calliper is defective. Anyone else experienced this nightmare? Any tips before I brace myself for a hefty bill?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Rapid, although I can't remember the exact error code. The electronic parking brake just refused to engage sometimes, and the warning light was constantly on. Did you check the brake switch? It might be a faulty brake sensor causing the issue. It's like when your computer mouse acts up because of a dirty sensor – same principle!

Interesting about the brake switch. Where exactly is that located, and is it something I could potentially check myself before heading to the workshop? I'm fairly comfortable with basic car maintenance, but I don't want to mess with the brake control system if it's too complicated.

Yes, it's definitely worth checking the brake switch. However, from what you describe, it really does sound like the motor in the calliper. The switch is usually near the brake pedal, but honestly, messing with the brake control system can be risky. Given the symptoms and the error code, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to vehicle safety and brakes.

You were spot on! Took it to the workshop as you suggested, and it was indeed the electric motor in the brake calliper. They replaced it, and the parking brake is working perfectly again. Cost me around 505€, but at least vehicle safety is back to normal. Thanks a bunch for your help!
