I did scan the codes and it pointed to a 'Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Reference - Incorrect Correlation'. The timing belt was replaced about 50,000 km ago. Any thoughts on what I should check next?

That code, combined with the symptoms, pretty much confirms the crankshaft/camshaft synchronization issue. Given the timing belt was changed recently, it's unlikely that it jumped a tooth, but it's always a possibility. The crank sensor would be my prime suspect. Given your description, checking the crank sensor and its wiring is definitely the next step. However, with those symptoms, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis. They have the tools and know-how to pinpoint the problem accurately and avoid further damage.

Took the Rapid to a trusted workshop. They confirmed it was the crank sensor and replaced it. Total cost was around 340€. Engine light is gone, and the car is running smoothly again. Thanks for your help!

That sounds like a classic case of crank/camshaft misalignment throwing the engine light. First question, have you scanned the error codes? If so, what exactly did they say? Also, has the timing belt ever been replaced on your Skoda?
