Skoda Roomster Battery Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2014 Skoda Roomster experiencing issues with a weak battery and flickering lights, suspected to be caused by a faulty battery sensor. The symptoms include difficulty starting the engine and inconsistent lighting. A suggestion was made to check the battery voltage with a multimeter to confirm the issue. Ultimately, a workshop diagnosis confirmed the defective battery sensor, and after repair, the car functioned properly.

I haven't done any battery testing. How can I check the battery voltage and assess the battery health? What values should I be looking for?

You can check the battery voltage with a multimeter. With the engine off, it should read around 12.6 volts. When the engine is running, it should be around 14 volts. Battery health is harder to determine without proper equipment. My issue ended up being a faulty sensor, which caused incorrect battery charge readings. I suggest taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis. It's probably a defective battery sensor.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the battery sensor was defective. The repair cost 315€. Now everything is working as it should.

I had a similar problem with my Opel a while back. The symptoms sound very familiar. Have you done any battery testing yourself? What does the battery voltage read when the engine is off, and when it's running? Also, what's the general battery health like? How old is it?
