Skoda Roomster Belt Handover Problem

I'm at my wit's end with my 2008 Skoda Roomster gasoline engine. I've got nearly 96000 km on the clock and the belt-handover has completely failed. I strongly suspect a defective belt bringer/handover is to blame. Has anyone experienced something similar? I'm dreading automobile maintenance again, especially with this confounded belt drive.

Whoa, bad belt tensioner sounds nasty! Is it making a lot of noise? Like, a really loud belt squeal? Maybe check the tensioner pulley and idler pulley to see if they're wobbly or something. Could be a simple fix, fingers crossed!

Thanks for the quick reply! Belt squeal is definitely there, loud and clear. When you say 'wobbly,' what exactly should I be looking for? Is there a specific way to test the tensioner pulley or idler pulley?

Yeah, 'wobbly' as in, does the tensioner pulley look like it's vibrating or shaking when the engine's running? If it is, the tensioner is probably shot. If the belt handover isn't working, best bet is to get it checked out. Sounds like you might need a new tensioner pulley. Better safe than sorry, could damage the whole belt drive system.

Appreciate the insights! Took it to the workshop, you were spot on. Defective belt handover, just like you said. Cost me 455€, but at least the Roomster is running smoothly again.
