Skoda Roomster ECU Problems

I'm having trouble with my 2009 Skoda Roomster gasoline. It's only got 42243 km on it, but the engine control unit seems to be acting up. I'm experiencing significantly reduced engine power, and the error memory is constantly logging errors related to the ECU. My initial thought, based on some research, is a defective main relay. Is this plausible?

Reduced power and an error code definitely point to a potential ECU issue. Has the error code been read? Automotive electronics can be sensitive. Have you considered a system reset before assuming a defective computer module? It's worth checking the basics first.

The error code was read and pointed towards a general malfunction with the engine control unit. A system reset was attempted, but the error reappeared almost immediately. Could a defective main relay truly cause such a pronounced issue with the ECU? I thought relay issues were usually more binary on or off.

Yes, a faulty main relay can absolutely cause ECU issues. The ECU needs a stable power supply. An intermittent or low voltage from a failing relay can scramble the signals and trigger error codes. Given that you've already tried a system reset, it does suggest a hardware problem. I'd still recommend a proper car diagnostics at a workshop.

It was the main relay causing the ECU issue. The repair, including parts and labor, was about 120€. It runs like new now. Thanks for the advice!
