Skoda Roomster Electronic Handbrake Failure

I'm having trouble with my 2006 Skoda Roomster with a Gasoline engine. The electronic handbrake is not working. The error memory is active, and there's a warning light on the speedometer. It seems the electric motor in the brake caliper might be the issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a DIY repair, or will it be expensive?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Skoda Roomster is experiencing an electronic handbrake failure, indicated by an active error memory and a warning light on the speedometer. The issue is suspected to be with the electric motor in the brake caliper. While a faulty brake switch was considered, the consistent warning light and error codes point more towards the caliper motor. Given the complexity and safety concerns, professional repair is recommended, and the repair cost is estimated at 505€.

That sounds unpleasant. Electronic parking brakes can be complex. Is the warning light always on, or does it flicker? Have you checked the brake switch? Sometimes a bad switch can disrupt the system, like a faulty light switch affecting your house wiring.

The light is constantly on. Where is the brake switch located? Can I test it without special tools? I'm good with tools, but electrics are mysterious to me.

A solid light usually indicates a more serious problem than a flickering one. While a faulty brake switch could be the cause, the symptoms and error codes suggest the electric motor in the caliper is the likely culprit. Considering the safety implications with brake control, and your unfamiliarity with electrics, I'd recommend having it checked by a qualified mechanic. Peace of mind is valuable in this situation.

Right then, after some investigation and a discussion with my local garage, it appears the electric motor in the brake caliper has failed. The repair will be around 505€, which is costly, but at least it's being resolved. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.
