Skoda Roomster Engine Trouble

I am experiencing an issue with my 2008 Skoda Roomster gasoline engine vehicle. The check engine light is illuminated, and the engine is running rough. I've also detected an exhaust leak and a strong exhaust smell. My suspicion points to a defective lambda sensor. Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

Sounds frustrating! I had something similar happen with my Roomster a while back. Check engine light, rough idling, the whole shebang. I didn't notice an exhaust leak, but the strong smell was definitely there. Have you checked your NOx sensors? Is it consuming DEF fluid like crazy?

Thanks for the quick response. Regarding the NOx sensors and DEF fluid, I haven't specifically checked those. How would I go about checking the NOx sensors? Is that something I can diagnose myself, or is it best left to a workshop?

Yeah, fiddling with the NOx sensors can be a pain without the proper tools. In my case, the lambda sensor was throwing all sorts of codes. The exhaust leak might be a separate issue, like a cracked exhaust pipe, so check that too. I'd recommend getting it properly diagnosed at a workshop to be sure. It’ll save you time and potential headaches down the road.

Following your advice, I took it to a certified workshop. Turns out the lambda sensor was indeed faulty. Repair cost me 375€. Runs smoothly now. Thanks for the help.
