Skoda Roomster heavy steering issue
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Skoda Roomster experienced heavy steering and occasional steering wheel vibrations, suggesting a potential power steering failure. The issue was linked to the steering angle sensor, with faulty coding being a possible cause. A local garage confirmed the problem, recoded the sensor, and resolved the issue, restoring normal steering function.

Yeah, the traction control light came on a couple of times. You mentioned it might be the coding of the angle sensor - is that a common thing?

Yes, the coding issue is surprisingly common with automotive sensors. Basically, the sensor loses its correct settings, and the system gets confused. It's worth getting it checked out by a garage, as it can affect the ABS and other safety systems. They should be able to recode the sensor and hopefully solve the problem.

Took the Roomster to a local garage, and they confirmed it was the steering angle sensor coding. They recoded it, and everything seems fine now. The total cost was 195€, which is annoying, but at least it's sorted.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane a while back. Steering got really heavy, and the traction control light kept popping on. Did you notice any warning lights on the dash?
