Skoda Roomster rough idle and check engine light

Okay, I'm officially pulling my hair out! My 2009 Skoda Roomster with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. The check engine light is on, my fuel consumption has gone through the roof, and the idling is all over the place. I've read it could be a defective knock sensor, possibly just a bad cable or plug. Anyone had this?

Sounds like a faulty knock sensor alright. Had similar car problems with my old Renault Megane. Check engine light, poor fuel efficiency, and rough idling are classic symptoms. Has anyone checked the ignition timing?

Ignition timing? I'm not really a car guy, so I don't know where to start. Is that something I can check myself, or am I better off taking it to a mechanic? I'm really annoyed about the warning light!

Yep, the ignition timing gets thrown off when the knock sensor isn't working right. While you could try checking the sensor connections yourself, fiddling with it without proper knowledge can cause more headaches. Given the symptoms, and that a faulty connection is the likely cause, I'd suggest biting the bullet and getting it checked at a workshop. They should be able to diagnose and fix it quickly.

You were right, the workshop confirmed it's the knock sensor. Getting it replaced for 95€. Thanks for the help!
