Skoda Roomster sensor problems

Help! My 2008 Skoda Roomster with a gasoline engine is doing weird things. The error memory says there’s a rain-light sensor fault. Now there's no automatic wiping when it rains, and the automatic headlights aren't working. My speedometer dimming is also gone, and the lights are always on. The car has 136171 km. Could it be the rain-light sensor causing all of this?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Skoda Roomster with a gasoline engine is experiencing issues with the rain-light sensor, leading to problems with automatic wipers, headlights, speedometer dimming, and lights staying on. The likely cause is a malfunctioning rain-light sensor, possibly due to bubbles forming under the gel pad on the windshield. The suggested solution is to replace the sensor unit, which resolved the issue for the car owner.

Whoa, that sounds like a pain! I had a similar problem with my Renault Megane, although it wasn't exactly the same. My wipers were going crazy even when it was bone dry outside, car electronics were totally messed up. Have you checked the auto sensor itself? I'm just wondering if the sensor is the issue and how to confirm that's the case. It's probably not the same car components, but it is worth a shot. I have no idea about speedo dimming though.

The auto sensor... you mean the rain-light sensor? How did you figure out it was a bubbling issue? I’m worried that the electrical fault could be somewhere else in my car, it's hard to troubleshoot!

Yeah, the rain-light sensor. I found some info online that mentioned bubbles forming under the gel pad on the windshield. These malfunctioning sensor bubbles can mess with the readings. To be honest, I didn't fix mine. I took my car to a workshop. They replaced the whole sensor unit. I'd suggest doing the same, could be a headache to fix yourself.

I took my Skoda Roomster to the workshop. The malfunctioning sensor gel pad had bubbles, just like you said! A replacement rain-light sensor fixed it. Cost me 62€. Thanks for the help!
