Thanks for the reply. I'll check the road surfaces. Is there a guide or diagram showing where the connections are? I don't know much about car suspension.

Given your lack of experience, I suggest a qualified workshop. Incorrectly handling suspension is dangerous. The ride and handling will suffer if the shock absorber isn't working right. While I understand wanting to troubleshoot, this needs professional attention for safety and proper repair. The cost you mentioned seems reasonable for diagnosing and fixing a connection.

It was a faulty connection, like we thought. The workshop charged 95€ to fix it. Thanks again for the assistance.

A warning light and bumpy ride aren't good. Check the error memory data. A defective cable or plug connection is possible. Look at the shock absorber connections for corrosion or damage. Is the damping adjustment fault there on all road surfaces, or only some? Has the car handling changed much, other than just the ride comfort?
