Skoda Scala Diesel Belt Tensioner Issue

Good questions. I did notice some engine noise, a sort of chirping sound, especially when the engine was cold. It wasn't very loud, so I didn't pay much attention. Engine performance seemed normal though. Could that chirping have been related to the belt tensioner, or is it possibly something else?

That chirping noise is a strong indicator it's the tensioner pulley. Though engine performance may seem normal now, driving with a failing tensioner can cause more damage. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop quickly, before it potentially damages other components. That 455€ estimate sounds about right for a replacement.

The workshop confirmed the belt tensioner was the problem. After spending 455€, the Scala is running smoothly again. Your input helped me go into the repair shop with a clearer idea of what to expect.

A belt handover not working on a 2020 Scala diesel with that low mileage is odd. A defective tensioner pulley is possible, but have you checked for any signs of belt squeal or unusual engine noise before this happened? What about the engine performance, did you notice any decrease?
