Skoda Superb Diesel Oil Pressure Warning

I've got a bit of a head-scratcher. My 2004 Skoda Superb, diesel engine, with about 194119 km on the clock, is throwing up some weird errors. The oil pressure warning lamp lights up and there's a warning light in the speedometer. I plugged it into a diagnostic tool, and it's showing a faulty engine oil temperature sensor. I'm thinking it might be the cable or plug connection on the component that's defective, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Had a similar issue?

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a 2004 Skoda Superb diesel experiencing an oil pressure warning light issue. The diagnostic tool indicated a faulty engine oil temperature sensor, leading to suspicions about a defective cable or plug connection. The suggested solution was to inspect the wiring and plug connection for damage, such as frayed wires or corrosion. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by cleaning and replacing some wiring related to the oil temperature sensor, eliminating the warning lights.

That's not good. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane. The oil gauge was going crazy, and the oil pressure light kept flashing. For me, it turned out to be a faulty car sensor, specifically the oil temperature sensor. The engine control unit (ECU) uses the oil temperature sensor to adjust the engine parameters. Is the engine running rough? If the sensor is sending incorrect data, it can cause all sorts of issues. Have you checked the wiring and the plug connection to the temp sensor? That's where my problem was in the end.

Thanks for the quick reply. So, you reckon it's likely the temperature sensor then? Where exactly is that oil sensor located? And when you say wiring, what should I be looking for? Any specific signs of damage?

Yeah, it does sound similar to what I experienced. The oil temp sensor is usually located somewhere on the engine block, often near the oil filter. As for the wiring, check for any obvious signs of damage – frayed wires, corrosion, or loose connections. Give the plug a wiggle; sometimes, it's just a bad connection. However, if you're not comfortable poking around too much, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. If the error memory shows a faulty oil temperature sensor, it could really be that sensor, and you might need a replacement.

I took the car to the shop. It was a faulty connection on the oil temperature sensor. They cleaned it and replaced some wiring. All good now, warning lights are gone. Cost me 95€ Thanks for the advice!
