Skoda Superb engine issues

I'm experiencing some issues with my 2004 Skoda Superb (gasoline engine, 191432 km). The check engine light is on, and I'm noticing reduced engine power, poor engine response, and occasional engine stalls at idle. Fuel consumption is also up. There's a distinct whistling noise, almost a loud hissing, when accelerating. Could this be a problem with the boost pressure system? I suspect a defect in the wastegate valve, but I'm not entirely sure. Any thoughts on where to start looking, or potential causes beyond the wastegate? I am also getting noticeable turbo lag.

That does sound like a potential boost pressure issue. Have you checked the intercooler pipes for any cracks or loose connections? A leak there could definitely cause those symptoms. Also, is the MAP sensor functioning correctly? It could be providing faulty readings to the ECU.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't checked the MAP sensor specifically. How would I go about testing that? And if the intercooler pipes are fine, what else could cause the whistling noise besides a wastegate issue?

Given the symptoms and the whistling noise, a faulty wastegate is certainly a strong possibility. I'm not entirely certain about alternative causes for the noise though. Testing the MAP sensor usually involves checking its voltage output with a multimeter, comparing it to specified values. Honestly, with all those symptoms combined, I'd probably recommend taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis. They can perform a boost pressure test and pinpoint the exact source of the problem.

Thank you for your input. I've taken it to a local workshop, and they've confirmed the wastegate valve defect. Repair cost will be around 860€. I appreciate the advice.
