Skoda Superb Engine Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Skoda Superb with 220,588 km is experiencing reduced engine power, a warning light, poor starting, and flickering lights. The error memory indicates a generator-related issue, suggesting a defective alternator. The problem is likely due to a voltage drop, possibly caused by a faulty alternator or loose connections. The recommended solution is to check the charging system and connections, and ultimately, the alternator was replaced to resolve the issue.

Loose connections where exactly? And how can I be sure it's not the starter motor? I don't want to jump to conclusions about alternator issue without checking everything.

Yeah, based on those symptoms and the error code, the alternator is the prime suspect. Starter motor problems are usually just a no-start situation, not flickering lights and voltage drop while driving. As for loose connections, check the wires going to and from the alternator and battery. If you're not comfortable poking around, best get it to a workshop.

Thanks for the input. I took it to the shop, and you were spot on – alternator replacement was needed. Cost me 960€.

Sounds like a dodgy alternator to me. The voltage drop is a telltale sign. Is it like when your phone battery is dying, and the screen dims? Check the charging system, could be loose connections too. Does the starter motor sound weak when you try to crank it?
