Skoda Superb engine running rough

I am writing to inquire about a peculiar issue I have encountered with my 2003 Skoda Superb, equipped with a gasoline engine. The vehicle has approximately 144795 km on the odometer. Recently, the check engine light illuminated, and the engine has exhibited rough running characteristics. Furthermore, the engine occasionally stalls when idling, and there is noticeable jerking during acceleration. I suspect a defective fuel pressure sensor, possibly due to a faulty cable or plug connection. Could this be the source of my woes?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Skoda some time ago. Rough idle and engine stalling can definitely be related to the fuel pressure sensor. Have you checked the sensor's readings with an OBD scanner? Also, are you experiencing any noticeable decrease in fuel economy?

I haven't checked the readings myself with a scanner, as I do not own one. However, I did notice that the fuel consumption seemed higher than usual these last days. Do you think the defective cable connection could be causing the sensor to send incorrect data to the fuel injector?

Yes, a faulty connection is a very likely culprit. It can cause the sensor to provide erratic readings, messing with the fuel injector and causing all sorts of problems like rough idle, stalling, and jerking. Given the symptoms and your suspicion, I'd suggest getting it checked out by a mechanic, especially the wiring harness and the sensor itself. It might be a simple fix, but best to be sure.

Thank you for the insight. It seems you were right. The workshop identified a defective fuel pressure sensor, and the cable connection was indeed faulty. Repair, including the sensor replacement, came out to 95€. The car is now running smoothly again.
