Whoa, sounds nasty! I had something similar happen in my Superb, though maybe not quite as dramatic. Mine was a sensor problem with the gear selector. The electronic display went haywire, and it felt like the gearbox was having a hard time figuring out what gear to be in. Did you get any error codes?

That sounds really close to what I'm experiencing! When you say 'sensor problem,' are we talking about something inside the gear shift knob itself, or something deeper inside the transmission? And did yours also throw up errors in the speedometer display? Any idea what the repair cost was?

Yeah, the display issue and weird shifting are dead giveaways. It was definitely a sensor related to the gear selector mechanism, not inside the shift knob itself, but deeper. Honestly, I didn't mess with it myself; I took it straight to a trustworthy workshop. They diagnosed it pretty quickly. And yes, the repair cost was in that ballpark – around 1000€. Get it checked ASAP before it causes more damage!

I took it to a recommended workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the gear selector control unit. They replaced it, and after recalibration, everything seems to be working perfectly again. It set me back around 1000€, just like you predicted. Thanks again for your help. Your experience really prepared me for this!
