Skoda Superb Hybrid Alarm System Issue

I'm hoping someone can offer some insight into an issue I'm having with my 2020 Skoda Superb hybrid. The alarm system is completely non-functional, and I'm getting an error stored in the error memory related to the additional battery for the alarm. A local garage suggested it's likely a discharged battery due to ageing, and they quoted me around 330€ for the repair. The car has 84003 km on it. Does this sound right, or could there be other underlying electrical issues at play here? Any thoughts on what I should do next before committing to the repair?

Interesting issue. A defective alarm system on a Superb is not something I've seen often, but it's certainly possible. The error stored in the memory points towards an electrical issue. Has the car been sitting for extended periods, or have you noticed any other electrical oddities? Before replacing the battery, have you performed a system diagnosis with a proper scan tool to verify the auxiliary battery is truly the culprit? A simple battery check might not be enough to rule out other factors like a faulty wiring harness or a parasitic draw. Replacing the auxiliary battery on these hybrids can be a bit tricky, so proper diagnosis is key.

Thanks for the quick response! The car is driven regularly, so I don't think it's due to sitting for too long. I haven't noticed any other electrical issues either. I only had a basic battery check done at a local garage. What kind of system diagnosis would you recommend to verify the auxiliary battery and rule out other potential problems? What should I be looking for in the scan results, or should I just bring it straight to a workshop?

Okay, since the basic battery check was inconclusive, a proper system diagnosis is definitely the next step. What I mean by that is using a diagnostic tool that can read the car's control modules. Ideally, you want to see the actual voltage of the auxiliary battery, not just a pass/fail. If the voltage is low (below 12V), and there are no other relevant error codes pointing to wiring or other modules affecting the charging circuit, then the auxiliary battery is the most likely culprit. Considering the age of the car, even though it's driven regularly, battery ageing is a common issue. For peace of mind, and to avoid throwing parts at the problem, I would strongly recommend taking it to a workshop that specializes in Skoda vehicles or has experience with hybrid electrical systems. They'll have the proper tools and knowledge to accurately diagnose the problem and ensure the correct repair is performed.

I took the Superb to the workshop today, and they confirmed it was indeed the auxiliary battery for the alarm system. They ran a battery check, and it showed that the battery was no longer holding a charge properly, likely due to age as you suspected. Total cost was 330€ including the new battery and labor. The alarm system is now fully functional again. Thanks again for your help!
