Skoda Superb Hybrid Automatic Transmission Problems
Summary of the thread
The 2022 Skoda Superb Hybrid is experiencing automatic transmission issues, including the car incorrectly detecting the parking position, engine start failures, and a persistent check engine light. Diagnostic checks indicate an error related to the automatic transmission, with symptoms suggesting a faulty transmission control unit. The problem may also involve the gear shifter or shift lock solenoid. The recommended solution is to replace the transmission control unit, which resolved the issues after being done at a workshop.

When you say 'gearbox slips/shifts uncleanly,' is this happening in all gears, or just some? Also, does the error message specify anything beyond a generic transmission fault? A more specific error code would be helpful in narrowing down the potential causes. You mentioned the neutral position - does the car behave as though it is in neutral when the gear shifter is in a different position? This could be related to the shift lock solenoid.

Okay, the 'implausible signal' error code and the car behaving as though it's in neutral when the shifter is in 'P' definitely strengthens the suspicion of a faulty transmission control unit. The gear position sensor signal being unreliable throws everything off, including the engine start sequence and gear selection. It could be a wiring harness issue, but that's less likely given the intermittent nature of the problem. The fact that the car sometimes rolls freely when in 'P' is concerning, as that is a major safety issue. In your situation, it’s hard to be absolutely certain without a hands-on inspection, but based on the information you've provided, it seems highly probable that the control unit is indeed the culprit. Unfortunately, these units can be quite expensive to repair or replace. I would advise taking it to a trusted workshop specializing in automatic transmissions for a thorough diagnosis and repair. They will be able to confirm the fault and potentially offer a more precise solution. There may be no way around spending those 1000€.

Thanks a bunch for the confirmation! I was really hoping it wasn't the control unit, but you were right. Bit the bullet and took my Superb to the workshop. Apparently, the diagnostic check pointed straight to the automatic transmission control unit. They replaced it, recoded everything, and after paying 1000€ everything seems to be working perfectly again. Appreciate the help!

That sounds like a tricky one. Given the symptoms, especially the "Engine does not start" and "Error stored in the error memory" alongside the gearbox issues, it does point towards an issue with the transmission control module. Has the car had any recent software installations or battery issues? Sometimes, a voltage drop during an installation can corrupt the module's software.
