Skoda Yeti Diesel Engine Trouble

I'm having a bit of a headache with my 2013 Skoda Yeti diesel. It's got quite a few kilometers on it. Recently, the fuel consumption has gone up, the engine sometimes stalls at idle, the check engine light is on, and I'm seeing some smoke when accelerating. I suspect the mass air flow meter (LMM) is faulty. Any thoughts before I take it to a workshop?

Sounds familiar. I had similar problems with my Renault Megane a while back. Check engine light, rough idling... Could be the MAF sensor. Have you checked your air filter? A dirty filter can sometimes mess with the air-fuel ratio and cause those symptoms too.

Yeah, the air filter looked okay when I checked it, although it's probably due for a change anyway. When you say 'similar problems', was it definitely the MAF sensor in your case? What exactly did you do to fix it?

Well, my Megane had all the same symptoms. Turned out to be the MAF sensor, like I suspected. I tried cleaning it first, but no luck. Ended up replacing it. If your air filter's clean and you're still having trouble, it's probably best to get the MAF sensor checked professionally. Don't want to mess with the air-fuel ratio too much without knowing for sure.

The MAF sensor was indeed the culprit. Replacement cost 365€. Fuel economy seems normal again. Thanks for the input!
