Skoda Yeti Diesel power loss and smoke

I am writing to inquire about an issue I am experiencing with my 2009 Skoda Yeti diesel. A warning light has illuminated, and the engine power is noticeably reduced. Furthermore, there is visible smoke upon acceleration, accompanied by a strong exhaust smell. Preliminary diagnostics suggest a possible issue with the diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure being too low, potentially due to a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. I am seeking insights or guidance on this matter.

That sounds frustrating! I had something similar happen with my Skoda Octavia diesel. The reduced power and the exhaust smell were awful. Have you checked the diesel particulate filter at all? Maybe a forced DPF regeneration is needed?

Interesting. When you had that experience with your Octavia, did the forced DPF regeneration resolve the issue permanently, or did you need to replace any parts? Also, did your car show the exact same symptoms - warning light, reduced power and smoke?

In my case, the DPF regeneration only provided a temporary fix. The warning light and reduced power returned shortly after. Eventually, the workshop identified a faulty sensor related to the DPF. I'd suggest getting it professionally diagnosed to pinpoint the exact cause.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I followed your advice and took my Yeti to the workshop. The diagnostic confirmed a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. After replacement, costing 245€, the issue seems to be resolved. No more warning lights, reduced power, or smoke. Appreciated!
