Skoda Yeti Oil Pressure Warning

I am writing to seek advice concerning my 2013 Skoda Yeti with a diesel engine. The vehicle has approximately 93965 km on the odometer. Recently, the oil pressure warning lamp has been activating, accompanied by loud mechanical noises emanating from the engine. I suspect a potential issue with the oil pump, but I would welcome insights from anyone who may have encountered a similar problem. The symptoms are concerning, and I am attempting to gather information before seeking professional assistance. I understand that diagnosing such issues remotely can be challenging, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I have not observed any changes in performance other than the aforementioned symptoms. The oil pressure sensor could be at fault, but I think it may be oil pump failure.

I also own a Skoda Yeti, though not from the same year. I experienced a similar issue some time ago. The oil pressure warning lamp illuminated, accompanied by unusual engine noises. Have you checked the engine oil level? Also, has there been any noticeable oil leakage?

Thank you for your response. I checked the engine oil level, which appears normal. I have not noticed any visible oil leakage either. Could you elaborate on the noises you heard? Were they constant, or intermittent? Did you observe any fluctuations on the oil pressure gauge, if your vehicle is equipped with one?

The noises were quite pronounced, a sort of rattling sound that increased with engine speed. It was similar to hearing marbles in a tin can. My Yeti does not have an oil pressure gauge, so I couldn't monitor any fluctuations directly. Given your description, it does seem indicative of oil pump failure. It is a serious issue that requires immediate attention to prevent potential engine damage. I would recommend having it inspected by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible. It is like ignoring a leaky faucet; it will only get worse and more expensive.

I appreciate you sharing your experience; it seems I am facing the same predicament. I took your advice and had it looked at by a professional. The diagnosis confirms a defect in the oil pump. The repair, including parts and labor, is estimated at 755€. A hefty sum, but essential to keep the vehicle operational.
