Skyline coolant loss

Thanks for the reply! I can't see any obvious leaks, and the temp gauge seems normal. How can I tell if the radiator cap is faulty? And what does the water pump actually do?

Okay, no visible leaks and normal temp is somewhat reassuring. A faulty radiator cap might look fine but not create a proper seal, letting coolant evaporate – it's designed to hold pressure in the cooling system, raising the boiling point of the coolant and preventing boilover. The water pump is a crucial part of your engine; it keeps the coolant flowing through the engine block and radiator to regulate engine temperature. If it’s failing, it won't circulate coolant effectively, potentially leading to overheating and coolant loss. I think you should visit a professional.

Thanks for the help, I'll take it to a local workshop! They found a minor leak in a hose and fixed it for 52€.

Hey! Low coolant is never good. It could be a bunch of things. First, is there any visible coolant leaking under the car? Check around the radiator and all the hoses you can see. Also, check the radiator cap – is it sealing properly? A faulty cap can cause coolant to evaporate over time. Finally, has the car been running hotter than usual? Overheating can boil off coolant pretty quickly. A low coolant level can be caused by leaks in the cooling system, a faulty radiator cap not holding pressure, or even a failing water pump (which circulates the coolant).
