SL engine issue Crankshaft Camshaft Correlation

My 2003 SL gasoline engine is having issues The check engine light is on, power is reduced, and fuel consumption is high I scanned the codes and it indicates a crankshaft to camshaft reference value problem Is it likely a crankshaft sensor, or could it be a cam sensor or stretched timing chain?

Crankshaft to camshaft correlation errors can be tricky Have you checked the crankshaft sensor connector and wiring harness for cleanliness and damage? Also, when was the cam sensor last replaced?

I will check the connector and wiring Thanks for the suggestion I do not recall when the cam sensor was last replaced Could a faulty cam sensor cause these crankshaft reading issues, or is a stretched timing chain more likely?

While a faulty cam sensor is possible, the reduced power and poor response suggest a crankshaft sensor issue A stretched timing chain is less likely unless the car has been neglected If unsure, a trusted mechanic can diagnose it You might face a cost of around 340€ to resolve the problem

I checked the connector, and it seemed okay I took it to a garage, and it was the crankshaft sensor They replaced it, cleared the codes, and it runs great again The total cost was 340€ Thanks for the advice
