SLC engine issue resolved

My 2017 Mercedes SLC with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. The check engine light is on, and the engine stalls sometimes at idle. Seems like the engine performance isn't what it used to be either. I scanned it and got a 'rail pressure sensor signal faulty' error. Could it be the pressure sensor?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Mercedes SLC was experiencing engine stalling and reduced performance, with a check engine light indicating a 'rail pressure sensor signal faulty' error. This issue was likely caused by a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor, which is crucial for the ECU to adjust the fuel mixture correctly. It was recommended to have a professional handle the repair due to the high-pressure fuel system. After replacing the defective sensor at a workshop, the vehicle's performance returned to normal, resolving the issue.

Sounds like a plausible diagnosis. A faulty fuel rail pressure sensor is a common culprit for those symptoms. The ECU relies on that sensor to know how much fuel pressure is in the rail. If the sensor is sending bad data, the ECU can't properly adjust the fuel mixture, which can cause all sorts of problems, like the engine stalling and reduced performance. How many kilometers are on your SLC?

It has 203339 km. Is it something I could fix myself, or is it better left to a professional?

At that mileage, the sensor could definitely be failing. While replacing the sensor itself isn't terribly difficult on some cars, the fuel system is under high pressure. If you aren't familiar with working on fuel systems, it's best to leave it to a workshop. A mistake could be dangerous. Plus, they can properly diagnose it to be absolutely sure and have the right tools. It's probably worth getting a quote from a trusted shop.

Thanks. I took it to a workshop, and you were right. The fuel rail pressure sensor was defective. They replaced it for 240€. The check engine light is off, and it runs perfectly now.
