Hey, thanks for the quick reply. You're right, I shouldn't put it off any longer. Do you happen to remember how much you paid for the repair? And have you had any other problems since then that might be related to it? Because that sounds exactly like the problem I'm having right now. Best regards!

Hey, sure, no problem! So, the control unit was actually defective and it cost me €525 to repair it. A bit expensive, but since then my Ford Fusion has been running perfectly. And as for the transfer case, that was also in emergency mode at one point, but that was fixed after a visit to the mechanic. So all in all, it was worth the money. Hope this helps you! Greetings back!

Hey, thanks for the info! That gives me a pretty good idea of what I might be in for. For €525 it was definitely worth it if you haven't had any other problems. I'm going to take my Ford to the mechanic first thing tomorrow and hopefully it won't be too expensive. Thanks again for your help, it has really helped me. Best regards!

Hey, I just had a similar situation with my Ford Fusion (2001 model, gasoline engine). The problem was actually the control unit. My car had similar symptoms: the shifter was grinding and there was this weird squealing noise. I would definitely say it was a serious problem. Don't let it run too long, it could seriously affect your car performance. The mechanic looked at it and replaced the ECU. Haven't had any further problems with it so far. It's a pain in the butt to take care of something like that, but better now than later. Good luck, buddy!
