SM5 Anti-Theft Alarm Malfunction

Hi, I'm having some trouble with my 2004 Renault SM5 with a gasoline engine. The anti-theft alarm system seems to be malfunctioning. I've got an error stored, and the alarm system itself isn't working at all. Could it just be a battery issue?

Hmm, that sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra. Is it possible your alarm system is coded to activate the optical locking? You know, the indicators flashing when you lock the car?

Optical locking? I'm not sure. How would I check if that's the case? Is it something I can do myself?

Well, on my Astra, it was a setting that messed with the alarm. Honestly, I just took it to a workshop. They sorted it out pretty quickly. Might be worth checking out. I'm no expert, just speaking from my experience.

Thanks for the advice. It turned out that the alarm system was indeed coded to activate the optical locking, which was causing the issue. The repair cost me 45€, and it's all sorted now.
