SM5 belt handover malfunction

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2002 Renault SM5, gasoline engine. At 81071 km, the belt-handover isn't functioning correctly. I suspect a defective belt bringer/handover mechanism. Has anyone else encountered something similar?

Sounds familiar. I had a comparable issue with my SM5. Is the belt squealing, especially on cold starts? Check the idler pulley and the serpentine belt for any signs of wear. A bad belt tensioner can cause engine noise.

Thanks! I'll check the idler pulley and serpentine belt. Could a faulty belt tensioner really be the sole culprit for the belt-handover malfunction, or could there be other factors?

In my case, it was the tensioner causing the handover problem. The belt wasn't maintaining proper tension. However, it might be best to get a professional opinion from a workshop. It cost me around 455€ to get mine repaired.

Understood, I appreciate your insight. I'll take your advice and bring it to a workshop for a thorough inspection. Good to know about the repair cost you had! It will help me gauge the estimate. Thank you!
