SM5 Brake Pedal Feedback
Summary of the thread
The initial comment describes an issue with unusual brake pedal feedback in a 2001 Renault SM5, suspected to be caused by undervoltage affecting the ABS during initial braking. Possible causes discussed include corrosion in metal brake lines and faulty ABS sensors. The solution involved replacing a faulty ABS sensor, which resolved the problem.

Thanks! The pads and shoes were replaced recently. Lines look OK, but I'll double-check them. Did yours get worse over time, or was it sudden? Was the ABS activating prematurely?

Mine was gradual. At first, just a slight oddness, then progressively worse. The ABS seemed to kick in way too early, especially on slightly uneven surfaces. Honestly, I'd get it hooked up to a diagnostic machine at a workshop if the lines look fine. Could be a sensor issue too.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out it was a faulty ABS sensor throwing everything off, just like you suspected. Cost me 240€ to get it sorted. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar issue with my SM5. Strange pedal feel, especially at lower speeds? Check your metal brake lines for corrosion. That can cause pressure fluctuations. Also, are your brake pads and brake shoes in good condition?
