SM5 Bypass Valve Error

Hi, I'm having a head-scratcher with my 2016 Renault SM5, gasoline engine. I keep getting an error stored in the error memory related to the bypass valve, and the engine seems to be overheating. I've checked the air intake for obstructions, but everything seems clear. Could a faulty exhaust system cause this?

Interesting issue! Overheating and a bypass valve error on a Renault SM5... While a blocked exhaust could theoretically contribute, it's less likely to directly trigger a bypass valve error. Is the car experiencing any noticeable power loss, and does the error code give any specific details about the bypass valve malfunction? It may be a consequential error resulting from another error.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, there is a definite power loss when accelerating. The error code is pretty generic, just indicating a malfunction in the bypass valve circuit. What kind of other error could possibly trigger this?

Okay, power loss and a generic bypass valve error code, plus overheating on your SM5... Hmmm. Given the symptoms, my suspicion is still a faulty sensor somewhere in the intake or cooling system reporting incorrect data. The bypass valve error might be a red herring that does not require the valve to be replaced. However, with a generic error, it's honestly tough to diagnose remotely. A workshop visit may be unavoidable for deeper diagnostics.

Thanks for the detailed feedback! You were spot on. Turns out it was a bad temperature sensor causing all sorts of chaos, including the bypass valve error. Got it sorted, and the total repair cost was 0€!
