SM5 Central Locking Failure

Central locking on my 2001 Renault SM5 with a gasoline engine is giving me a headache. Doors won't lock or unlock with the key fob or the interior button. Diagnostic shows an error about a defective cable or plug connection. Fuse box is okay. Could it be related to the car alarm?

I had a similar problem with my SM5. Have you checked the wiring harness that goes into the door? Wires often break or disconnect there, especially on older cars. Check the driver's side door first; it usually gets the most wear. Is the remote locking working at all, or is it completely dead?

Thanks! I haven't checked the wiring harness inside the door, just the fuse box. Where exactly should I look for the wiring harness? Is it easy to access, or do I need to remove the door panel?

Yes, the door panel has to come off to access the harness properly. If you're not comfortable with that, a workshop might be easier. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting myself, and ended up taking it to a local car service. They confirmed a defective cable and resolved the issue.

Okay, thanks! I'll just take it to my local mechanic. Probably faster and less frustrating. Got a quote for around 95€, which seems reasonable. Appreciate the help!
