SM5 Ignition Coil Issue

I'm pulling my hair out here. I've got a 2016 Renault SM5, gasoline engine, with 153709 km on the clock. Lately, it's been running super rough and stalls at idle sometimes. The check engine light is on, and it jerks when I try to accelerate. I'm thinking it might be an ignition coil issue, maybe a bad connection, but I'm not sure where to start. Any thoughts?

Sounds like coil failure to me. Is it like when your TV remote needs new batteries? Everything's just… sluggish and unresponsive? Have you checked the spark plugs? Sometimes a bad plug can overload the coil.

Yeah, sluggish is a good way to describe it! I haven't checked the plugs yet, good call. But if it is a bad coil, is it something I can diagnose myself with a multimeter, or am I just asking for more trouble?

You could test it, but honestly, it's kinda like trying to diagnose a stomach ache without being a doctor. You might guess right, but you could also miss something. Given the symptoms, and the mileage, a shop will pinpoint it quickly and accurately. Save yourself the headache.

I think I'm in over my head. Took it to the shop, and you nailed it – defective ignition coil. Turns out it was a dodgy connection. 95€ later, and it's running like a dream. Thanks for the advice!
