Where exactly should I be looking for this connection? Is it behind the door panel, or is it part of the door switch itself? Also, how to check the error memory? Do I need a special tool to do that?

Yeah, the connection is usually behind the door panel, near the door handle mechanism. You will need diagnostic equipment to read out the error memory. Honestly, unless you're comfortable with car electrics, it might be worth getting a workshop to take a look. The repair should be around 95€.

I took it to a shop, and you were spot on – it was a defective plug connection in the door. They fixed it, and everything is working again. I really appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my old BMW 3 series. Keyless entry went kaput, and it turned out to be a faulty connection in the door. Have you checked the cable and plug connections to the door handle component? It's a common weak spot, especially the CAN bus connections. You'll need to check the error memory for a specific error code.
