SM5 TPMS Error
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Renault SM5 owner experienced a persistent tire pressure warning light and a TPMS error code, despite the tires appearing fine. The issue was likely due to malfunctioning tire pressure sensors, possibly from dead sensor batteries given the vehicle's age. Replacing the sensor batteries resolved the problem, eliminating the warning light.

Fluctuations? Not really, it just suddenly appeared one day. The error code is something like C1501, I think, but I'd have to double-check. Could it be the sensor batteries are just dead after all these years?

Error code C1501 typically indicates a malfunction within the tire pressure monitoring system. Given the age of your vehicle, it is highly probable that the sensor batteries have reached the end of their lifespan, thus triggering the error. I suggest consulting a qualified automotive technician for sensor replacement.

Thanks! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out all four sensor batteries were kaput. Replaced them all for 280€, and now the warning light is gone. Appreciate the help!

Based on the information you have provided, it is plausible that the tire pressure sensor is indeed the source of the issue. Have you observed any fluctuations in tire pressure readings prior to the error message appearing? Furthermore, could you provide details on the specific error code retrieved from your OBD reader?
