SMAX ABS Fault Limp Mode

Hey, so I'm kinda freaking out. My 2019 Ford SMAX diesel is doing some really weird stuff. It's only got 36083 km on the clock, but the transfer case seems to be stuck in some kind of limp mode. The gearbox feels like it's slipping and shifting really uncleanly. I had a diagnostic ran and the garage says it's probably consequential faults stemming from the ABS. Has anyone else experienced this with their SMAX? I'm dreading the repair bill...

The symptoms you describe are consistent with a potential issue within the ABS system cascading into the transfer case control module. It is conceivable that aberrant readings from the ABS sensors are causing the traction control system to misinterpret wheel slippage, thus engaging a protective limp mode within the transfer case. Do you have access to the specific fault codes that were recorded?

Thanks for the reply! I do have the fault codes, yeah. There were a bunch related to the ABS module itself, and then a couple specifically mentioning the transfer case and traction control. Does this all but confirm that the ABS is the root of the problem then? If so, what's the best course of action here?

Based on the information provided, the fault codes strongly suggest a correlation between the ABS module and the transfer case malfunction. It is however impossible to be certain without a detailed diagnostic analysis. The safest and most efficient course of action would be to entrust your vehicle to a qualified technician for a complete assessment of the ABS system and its interaction with the transfer case control module.

Right, I understand. Thanks for confirming my suspicions and for the cautious advice. I really appreciate the input. It turns out I was still under warranty with Ford and they covered everything – a new ABS module did the trick, thankfully!
