SMAX Air Conditioning Failure

My 2009 Ford SMAX, gasoline engine, has an air conditioning issue. It's completely dead. There's an error stored, no cooling, the system won't switch on, and the warning light is on. Diagnostics point to a defective air conditioning control unit. Has anyone else had this? The garage quoted 980€, which seems insane. I've checked fuses. Any pointers?

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my SMAX a while back. Same symptoms: no cold air, warning lights, the whole shebang. Didn't mess about trying to fix it myself, though.

Did the error codes point to the control unit as well? Was the repair bill in the same ballpark as mine? I'm trying to work out if I'm being ripped off or if this is just the going rate. Any insights?

Yeah, the error code was something about the AC control unit. I didn't get a breakdown of the exact parts but yeah, sounds about right. I ended up just taking it to a trusted workshop. I'd recommend you do the same. Sometimes it's better to just let the pros handle it, especially with air conditioning repair.
