SMAX Air Conditioning Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Ford SMAX with a gasoline engine has a non-functional air conditioning system, indicated by a warning light and error codes pointing to a defective air conditioning control unit. The issue is confirmed by diagnostics, and a repair quote of 980€ was provided. The suggested solution is to have the control unit replaced by a professional garage, as similar cases have been resolved this way, and the cost appears to be standard for this type of repair.

Did the error codes point to the control unit as well? Was the repair bill in the same ballpark as mine? I'm trying to work out if I'm being ripped off or if this is just the going rate. Any insights?

Yeah, the error code was something about the AC control unit. I didn't get a breakdown of the exact parts but yeah, sounds about right. I ended up just taking it to a trusted workshop. I'd recommend you do the same. Sometimes it's better to just let the pros handle it, especially with air conditioning repair.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like I'm facing the inevitable then! I'll book it in with a reputable garage and get it sorted. At least I know now that the quote isn't completely out of the ordinary. Appreciate the confirmation – saved me a lot of pointless messing about trying to fix it myself!

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my SMAX a while back. Same symptoms: no cold air, warning lights, the whole shebang. Didn't mess about trying to fix it myself, though.
