SMAX Automatic Transmission Implausible Shifting

My 2010 Ford S-MAX diesel with 147235 km has an automatic transmission issue. The indicator light is on and off, the transmission isn't shifting right, and sometimes it goes into emergency mode. Could worn transmission oil cause this?

I had something similar happen with my S-MAX. Is it worse when the car is cold? Could be a bad sensor or low voltage. I'd check that first, before assuming the worst.

Thanks. I agree a sensor or undervoltage could cause this. It does seem worse when cold. Which sensor or voltage aspects should I check?

For me it turned out to be undervoltage. These cars are sensitive, so definitely check your battery and charging system. If it's not that, best to get it properly diagnosed at a workshop to avoid more problems.

Thanks for the help. A diagnostic check confirmed undervoltage was causing the shifting issues. A transmission flush and oil replacement for 240€ fixed it completely.
