SMAX Belt Tensioner Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Ford SMAX hybrid with approximately 200,000 km is experiencing issues with the belt handover, suspected to be caused by a defective belt tensioner. Initially, there was a belt squeal, which has since stopped, leaving only the handover problem. A similar case confirmed that replacing the entire belt drive and tensioner resolved the issue. The suggested solution is to take the vehicle to a workshop for repair, with an estimated cost of 455€.

Yes, initially there was also belt squeal, but that's gone now. It's just the handover that's not working. Was yours also the tensioner pulley?

Yes, it was exactly that! It's most likely a defective belt handover. I'd recommend taking it to the workshop. I had to replace the whole belt drive and tensioner.

Thanks a lot! Turns out it's exactly that - a defective belt tensioner. Repair will be around 455€. Will get it sorted.

I also own an SMAX. My symptoms were similar, however on mine the serpentine belt squealed badly at startup, and then it eventually went away. Is it that as well?
